Inspire Me Baby

One of the things I’m guilty of is forgetting to capture the photographs that help tell a story in my portrait sessions. It’s difficult to remember to photograph the action of it all when I’m doing my best to capture a baby smiling and looking at the camera. One of the reasons why I love this family session by Feather Nest Photography is because Allison captures the tag on the back of the overalls, the pull of mom’s hair, and the little feet.  One of the tips below from Allison is to always have your camera ready (from the moment you get out of the car to the moment you get back in) – you never know what you might miss.

    From Feather Nest Photography:

    1. Always learn something from every session. There is always something that can be improved on.
    2. Learn to use the light & don’t snap the picture if the light isn’t right! Just don’t do it! You don’t want to fix those dark shadows under the eyes or the blown out sky later – & it won’t be that great anyway. (and shoot in manual mode – for the most control over the light)
    3. Always carry baby wipes and hand sanitizer in your camera bag . . . the gray/blue porch from this session had bird poo all over it. We avoided most of it, but, well . . . you get the idea . . .
    4. Always have your camera out & ready as you get out of your car;  never put your camera away until you get back to your car. The last shots from this session, with dad, were taken as I was walking back to the car talking to mom & noticed Dad playing ahead of me. They ended up being some of my favorites. Some of my favorite shots other days are close-ups of mom getting everyone ready before the session.
    5. Don’t lay your lens caps around & assume they will make it back to your bag;o) urgh.

Laura Brett Photography makes every single one of these newborn photographs look like this baby cooperated with everything she wanted – if only it were so easy! The pastel tones in the images in addition to how the wraps match with the blanket backgrounds make these photographs so perfect! Check out how every little finger and toe is in place as well. Laura offers great advice too about photographing newborns – to relax because they can smell fear a mile away!

From Laura Brett Photography: We truly love what we do, but nothing says good morning than capturing a brand new bundle of joy. When photographing newborns, patience is key – they can smell fear a mile away.  Pay close attention to the details; the folds of their skin, the fuzzy little necks, even the tiniest flakes of skin.  It’s important to remember all of the tiny details because it will go by in a blink of an eye!

It’s not necessary to have mom wear flowy dresses and baby doll shirts to show off her bump in a maternity session! How about a tank, jeans with a zebra print belt and red 3 inch heels?

From Nancy Mitchell Photography: I had the opportunity to photograph an OB/GYN resident’s wife (I am a Labor and Delivery nurse full-time and photographer part-time). She is such model material! I absolutely LOVE her RED shoes!
