Welcome to our last of the series on off-camera flash Find Lesson 1 here and lesson 2 here. Now that you’ve figured out how to correctly expose a photograph with f/stop, what does shutter speed do? Shutter speed controls your ambient exposure.
Step 1. Find a model (most likely a family member) and head outside at twilight.
Step 2. Set up your off-camera flash and find the correct exposure.
Step 3. Now, choose a slow shutter speed. How does it change your photograph? The photographs below were taken at 7:30 p.m., so it was already quite dark by then. The first photograph was taken with a shutter speed of 1/30 and the second one with a shutter speed of 1/10. You’ll notice a little bit of ghosting in the second photograph.
