We’ve ALL seen the crib-in-the-field type photographs but the thing you’ll find different about this 6 month old session by Photography by Kelly Klatt is the fantastic way she styled it. The matching pillow, sham, headband, yellow hat, and teddy bear for an accent all make this a super cute session that takes it a notch above the crib-in-a-field we’ve seen.
Plus, you’ll be inspired by the number of outfit changes from Kelly’s session! I’ve counted four – but wondering if there was more! Kelly gives some great advice about photographing multiple outfit changes below – so you’ll want to read her description about the session.
From Photography by Kelly Klatt: I’ve been seeing lots of ‘bed in a field’ photo sessions lately, and I always loved that idea. Every month I shop at a few stores in town that host “occasional sales” (antique/flea market type stores that only open their doors once a month). I was looking for the perfect bed to put in a field… instead, I found this vintage crib for twenty bucks! As I like to tell my husband… it was practically FREE! I also found a vintage yellow sham that I thought would look cute thrown over the side of the crib.
I went to Target and bought a bright yellow pillow for a splash of color, plus I already had the yellow hat and flower headband from Etsy.com. When my 6 month old session came, we shot a few different outfits in the studio (aka, my dining room), and then headed out to the field of weeds in my backyard for the crib shots. Not all babies will last through 3 or 4 outfit changes or setups (and I always tell parents to start with the ‘look’ they want MOST, and work from there), but in the warmer months, I am able to start inside, shoot an outfit or two, then head outside and start all over again. The change of scenery and fresh air kind of recharges the kiddos!
