Inspire Me Baby

November10th

Check out this beautiful newborn session by Jason Powell Photography. You’ll love the combination of the carriage and gorgeous pop of orange to fit with the Fall theme Jason had in mind. The Fall theme works beautifully without being over-the-top. If you want a hat like the one Jason has, check out JoCo Couture. Also, you won’t want to miss the tips Jason has for photographing newborns below.

From Jason Powell Photography: This was a great session with a sleepy ten day old baby boy! He was a pleasure to work with. I wanted to incorporate fall into the session without it over taking the baby. I had a awesome hat made by Heather at Joco Couture http://www.facebook.com/pages/JoCo-Couture-Custom-Photography-Props-/124681424119 in the perfect shade of orange. The color worked seamlessly with what I had envisioned. I also had a orange throw I used as well with a vintage mini stroller to give a fall feeling to the images. This session lasted just a little over an hour using natural light. It was a fun session for me as my wife was able to watch me in action! I had to make sure I did my best :)

Posing this little guy was a breeze. I am a creature of habit and like to start with the baby on his or her back in in a little cubbyhole I make in my beanbag. I’ll take a few images as I monitor their sleep. I allow them to settle in a deep sleep before I  start posing. I really try to get good hand and feet placement but it depends on the baby. Once he was out he did not mind any of the poses.

As always, I used my Nikon D700, the 50mm 1.4 afs for most of the work and the 60mm 2.8 afs micro for the detailed images.

I love crocheted hats on newborns! That hat is so dreamy! Great tips Jason. I love the hands under the chin shot and I want to try it on my next shoot! Thanks for the inspiration!
