What to Wear

Family Session with Niña and Cecilia

It’s very rewarding as a photographer to pause to take some time to photograph your own family.  It’s important to force yourself to do this even after you’ve done hundreds of sessions all year and the last thing you want to do is yet one more session.  It might help to go all out like Niña and Cecilia did here by picking out specific, fun outfits for everyone in the family!  It’s a fun way to get motivated to get your family in front of your lens.  Thanks to Niña.Cecilia { creative spark} for this awesome family session they shared with us!

Oh, and they even gave us a video!

What To Wear | July 4th Inspired

For our non-USA viewers, you can just refer to this edition of What To Wear as Red, White and Blue inspired :)  But for the majority of us, Independence Day is this week and it’s time for a little inspiration on what to wear for your holiday photo shoots.

So the question is, how do you dress to show your patriotism without looking like an American Flag?  Well, we think we have at least one solution for you.  It’s more of a “Hey, I just now noticed that you’re wearing red, white and blue” feel instead of that “Hey there star spangled banner!” shock that leads to an awkward moment for everyone involved.

The wardrobe is inspired by Old Navy, Target, and Toms Shoes.  The use of the muted blues and gray undertones helps bring a healthy dose of subtlety to the patriotic palette.  You can download all the URLs for each item here.

What to Wear | Spring Inspired

Believe it or not, spring is right around the corner which means the addition of lots of color to our wardrobes—perfect for a spring session under the budding trees!

Cobalt blue is hot right now and looks like it will continue to gain popularity in the coming months. Work it in with a pair of bright skinnies (another hot trend!) paired with a fresh green top for a great color block effect.

Create cohesion by choosing pieces for the rest of the family that play off your look’s color story without being too literal. This creates a group that looks effortlessly in step instead of like you’re trying too hard to match perfectly.

Freebie: What to Wear | Mid-Winter

You asked for them and finally What to Wears are back!

This is one of my all-time favorite color combos! Even though the colors are cool, there’s something so warm and comfy about them. It makes me think of knit blankets, warm scarves and a hot cup of cocoa by the fire.

What I love about these outfits is that no matter who is paired up in the photo, the looks will complement each other without looking too matchy-matchy. It looks like a group that should be together.

Another great thing about these outfits is that they each have something that’s visually interesting (whether it be a pattern or a texture) without being overpowering. There’s nothing bland about the looks, but they still let the family shine.

Here’s a casual Mid-Winter look for you. You can download it without the logo here. You can also view the URL’s to the individual clothing items here.
